Glacier Bay National Park

Margerie Glacier

Once part of the Grand Pacific Glacier, the Margerie Glacier claimed independence in the 1990s and has become its own masterpiece. Now this 34km landmark is the most famous glacier in the park, with one of the most active glacier faces. Sail alongside its blue walls and delight in its enormity from the comfort of your ship – which rotates 360 degrees - while at the glacier, so that all passengers have the opportunity to see it.

Grand Pacific Glacier

A long time ago, the Grand Pacific Glacier once included glaciers such as the Margerie Glacier and the Johns Hopkins Glacier. Now the 3 km long glacier lives by itself, extending both in Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska and in the Grand Pacific Pass in Canada. Wrapped in black, it is easy to confuse this landmark with a rock or dirt. Be attentive to this hidden treasure, and delve deeper into the history of this constantly evolving glacier with the help of the rangers.

Johns Hopkins Glacier

Named in honor of the prominent university based in Baltimore, the Johns Hopkins Glacier is as prestigious as its academic counterpart. While its 19 km long terrain makes it one of the largest in the park, the Johns Hopkins Glacier is most famous for being one of the few remaining advancing glaciers.

Wild nature

Get to know the many personalities of Glacier Bay National Park as you navigate through the natural habitats of Alaska's wildlife. See humpback whales and orcas break the ocean's surface, welcoming you to the Great Land. Wave to the sea lions resting under the Alaskan sun. Observe common seals floating on chunks of ice, and delight in the joy of sea otters as they float face up on the water. Glacier Bay's wildlife is a spectacle in itself.

Meet the rangers

Learn about Glacier Bay National Park from the people who know it best. As you sail through the deep fjords of the park, the rangers join you on board to share the history and facts of the region and its wildlife.

Glacier Bay for youth

Young nature lovers will find much to enjoy on a Glacier Bay cruise. Princess offers fun and age-appropriate activities, also adapted for children, including a special Junior Ranger program where they can earn their own badge —available exclusively in Glacier Bay.

What clothes to wear?

With temperatures fluctuating between -1º and 15º degrees, dress in several layers to ensure you are comfortable all day. Since it is usually colder on the water and near the glaciers, we recommend bringing a warm coat, waterproof gear, a hat, gloves, and supportive footwear for walking. You may also want to bring additional memory cards for your camera so you can relive all your adventures. Most importantly, don't forget to bring binoculars so you can admire the natural landmarks up close from the comfort of the ship.

Glacier Bay Experience

Enjoy about 8 hours in Glacier Bay National Park navigating spectacular landscapes with an hour spent in front of Margerie Glacier. Rangers will provide commentary from the bridge, give presentations in the Princess theater, and walk the open decks so you can ask them questions. Many of the onboard activities will be suspended to ensure you make the most of this special experience.
